The rustic town of Ilu -Titun, Okitipupa area of Ondo State, was thrown into mourning weekend as one Raphael allegedly hacked his septuagenarian neighbour, Kayode Omotore, to death over a minor disagreement.

The deceased wife, Johana, was also not spared as the suspect reportedly cut off some of her fingers.

An eyewitness disclosed that the disagreement between the deceased and the suspect has always been on the burning of dirt close to the deceased’s house by the suspect.

Vanguard gathered that another fight ensued on this particular day and it degenerated to the extent that the suspect reportedly brought out matchete and hacked  both the deceased and the wife.

The eyewitness said: “The man (deceased) had warned the suspect to stop making bonfire beside his house because anytime he set the fire up, the smoke always covered the compound of the deceased and the deceased didn’t like it and had complained severally about it.

“On Friday, the same issue came up again and before we knew it, it had led to fighting between them and Raphael matchete the old man to death and while the deceased’s wife, who was trying to prevent her husband from the attack, had some of her finger cut off by the suspect.”

However, another source alleged that the suspect may be having some health challenges.

Police image maker, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect.

Joseph said: “Investigation had commenced but we have arrested the suspect. The deceased is a neighbour to the suspect. Some people are saying he has a mental problem but that does not mean we should not do our work.

“We heard that about 12 pm (on Friday) some angry mob in the town went to his (suspect) house and burnt it down.”

He said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary while the wife is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
