Poll: NAS urges FG to tackle unemployment

The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has called on the federal government to quickly address the problem of unemployment as a way of putting an end to the perennial problem of Nigerian youths seeking greener pastures in Diaspora. .

NAS, in a statement released yesterday on the outcome of the poll, described the recent happening in Libya, where some Nigerians who were victims of slave trade due to the high rate of unemployment in the country as unacceptable, noting that the opinion polls conducted via its tweeter handle revealed that  the rate of unemployment in the country has led to the increase in the number of Nigerian youths seeking better options outside the nation’s shores.

The NAS opinion poll tagged ‘Libya slave trade what do we do to discourage Nigerians from this dangerous journey’ with different options such as tackle unemployment, instant deportation, deportees to pay for their flight, and public enlightenment.

the poll revealed  a sample size of 64 percent of the 222 respondents accepted that the issue of emigration can be discourage by addressing the problem of unemployment while 25 percent indicated that public enlightenment can aid the discouragement of intended migrants, 6 percent indicated that the instant deportation of those caught without proper documentation will address the issue, while 5 percent want those deported to shoulder the cost of their flight back to Nigeria.

Reacting to the outcome of the poll, the international president of the organization Arthur Boje, Esq, said the poll was conducted as part of the organization’s ongoing campaign to draw the attention of the world to the unacceptable practice of slavery.

“Part of the strategy is also to keep and retain the conversation on slavery in Libya as a major burner in the public space.” he added.
