Nnewi—Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and his Delta State counterpart, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, in conjunction with the Corp Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi have resolved to work together to ease the traffic jam that nomally keeps December and New Year travellers along Asaba end of the River Niger Bridge and Onitsha Enugu Express way sleeping on the road.
Governor Obiano and Dr Oyeyemi who visited Governor Okowa in Asaba before flagging off the Anambra 2017 Ember Months Awareness Campaign, promised that travellers will not witness such excruciating traffic and warned motorists that will try to obstruct traffic movement that their vehicles will be impounded, coupled with heavy penalty or prosecution.
FRSC Ember Months Awareness Campaign theme, “Right to Life on Highway is not Negotiable” campaign flag- off was done at Chisco Motors Transport Company at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, and had all the road traffic outfits, such as Obinna Ajaegbu- led Willie Work Force, WWF; Anambra State Traffic Agency, ASTA; National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO represented.
Chief Obiano said he will set up task force that will start arresting alcohol seller within the motor park so as to stop the issue of drinking and driving witnessed among drivers, just as he promised to donate 40 ambulances to FRSC that will be stationed in strategic locations in the state for quick response during emagencies, as well as provide 25 alcohol and speed detector equipment across the state.
Earlier in his welcome address the Corps Marsha, FRSC, Dr. Oyeyemi said that the corps as usual has commenced high level intervention strategies to ensure that lives and property of the road users are safe especially during this Christmas celebration and New Year celebrations.
The FRSC boss maintained that all the 22 critical corridors of the nation’s road network would be effectively managed, in addition to her roadside clinic and emergency ambulances scheme.
