LOKOJA – The Atta-Igala, HRM Michael Ameh Oboni (11) has called on Federal, State government and wealthy Nigerians to invest more of their resources in youth empowerment, and upliftment of the downtrodden.
The Atta-Igala made the call yesterday at his Palace in Idah, Kogi State when the Minister of Labor and Employment (State), Prof. Steven Ocheni paid him a visit.
The Traditional ruler, who noted with concern that while so many persons including some of his subjects could waste several millions of Naira to purchase nomination forms for Governorship and other political positions, some of them hardly channel a little percetage of such money to cater for the education of youth in their areas.
The Atta-Igala who is also the President, Kogi State Council of Chiefs also decried the low level of representation of his subjects at the national level of governance, even when his Kingdom is blessed with a lot of intellectuals and technocrats.
He appealed to all in his domain to ensure they are united, “There is strength in unity, because in it a lot could be achieved.”
Atta said he was proud of the Minister, whom he said despite his academic and attainment in public service, had remained very humble and disciplined.
“I praised you (Prof. Steven Ocheni) for being a worthy Ambassador of the state at the Federal Executive Council level with your robust contributions. I called for support to enable the Minister succeed in his assignment.”
Earlier, the Minister of State Labor and Employment, Prof. Steven Ocheni who spoke extensively on the need for unity, said unity is an integral part of development.
Prof. Ocheni said the Buhari administration has put the economy on the path of sustainable growth through reforms and recovery of looted funds, in addition to tackling of inherited insecurity and insurgency.
Ocheni also commended the State Governor, Yahaya Bello for embarking on reforms and projects geared towards making positive impact on the lives of the People.
The Minister called for support inorder to sustain the development of Kogi State, which he said he was irrevocably committed to achieve.
