Delta govt, DSIEC urged to ensure credible poll in Okpe

By Olawale Gabriel

Delta State government and Delta State Independent Electoral Commission DSIEC have been advised to ensure level playing ground in the January 6 chairmanship and councillorship election in Okpe Local Government Area and avoid rigging to favour the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In a statement at Orerokpe, yesterday, Coordinator of Okpe Equity Platform, OEP,  Mr. Philip Edjeduere, said: “There are speculations that DSIEC may not distribute sensitive materials to all the polling units in Okpe LGA because the All Progressives Congress, APC, has the most popular and generally acceptable chairmanship candidate in the LGA.

Delta State Government should ensure that the outcome of the January 6 election is not rigged or manipulated for PDP. We appeal to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to allow DSIEC collate and announce the result of the chairmanship election in Okpe immediately at the council as taking the result to Asaba for announcement will only indicate the manipulation of the result.”
