•Economic, agricultural activities grounded in Emohua, Ibaa, 4 other towns

THE Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, Chief Godspower Nnwoka, has lamented that   cultists operating from unknown hideouts have destroyed the local government area with their violent killings and other blood chilling activities. .

Chief Nnwoka, who spoke at a peace meeting the council initiated between two rival cult groups, Icelanders and Greenlanders in the area, pleaded with them and other citizens to rebuild the council, as peace has eluded the area, forcing investors to flee.

Chief Godspower Nnwoka

Reports said the activities of cultists grounded economic and agricultural activities not only at Emohua town, but Ibaa, Ogabkiri, Rumuekpe, Omudioga, Egbeda communities, all in Emohua local government area..

Rivers state government had, sometime ago,   granted amnesty to cultists, who were involved in supremacy battles, leading to hostage takings, gun running and killings by rival gangs at several parts of the state, but few months after, the gangsters resurfaced.

. . LG chair invites warring cult gangs

At the meeting attended by representatives of the two cult groups, elders, chiefs and stakeholders of the affected communities, Nnwoka urged the cult groups to shun criminal activities and embrace peace in the interest of development.

“I am very happy that I called you all (cultists) and you answered. My concern is how we can rebuild our land because we are living in a collapsed house. Our name is spoilt. We have destroyed our home. If our home is good, we cannot live outside our communities or in bushes.

“I am calling on you to return home, let us make peace. Killing will not do us any good.   The garri, which we produce can feed the entire state but people do not want to come again because they say the place is volatile.

“I am pleading with one of our sons, formerly one of you, Glory Amadi, who has done so well and visited communities to meet with these youths in search of peace. He has questioned the reason for the continued killings. He wants to return that glory, which God gave to us. We want to progress the way other people are excelling,” he said.

Sources told Saturday Vanguard that the two gangs at the truth-telling assembly regretted their actions, which caused harm to residents of the area with cultists confessing that they were tired of kidnapping and killings.

Repent and be converted – Ex cultist

Apologetic cultist, Glory Amadi, who tasked other youths said, “If you do amnesty to government and you do not do it to God, it is not complete. I have had encounter with God, which is why I have changed. I do not drink again. I met with Nature (another remorseful notorious cultist in the state), he took me to a Missionary School. I will soon start missionary training. I will not want to pastor any church, but I will travel from place to place to preach the gospel of Christ.

LG without bank

“The passion I had that made me to be involved in crime was from the pit of hell, but now I have a better passion from heaven. Our local government is the only one in Rivers State where you cannot find any bank because of crime. We are fighting for supremacy when we do not know where the power is coming from.  How can we be empowered when we are in the bush? The duty of salvation is greater than man’s calculation. I urge all of you to have passion for God for you to have a new life,” Amadi sermonized.

Expose cultists to police

Another former cultist, Enyadike Promise, lauded the council boss for the initiative, saying that the youths were tired of unlawful activities and living in the bushes. It is a privilege to be alive today, peace is priceless. If you have not fought war before, you will not know that peace is important. I will work towards having amnesty from God. We do not even know what we are fighting for; we are tired of this act and we need peace and freedom. I want us to stop making cultism attractive. If we stop it, cultism will stop. If a genuine and humble person who is in the university studying calls you for help, you will not render any help but if a cultist calls you, you will help him. By doing that, you have encouraged the cultist and discouraged the good youth. Let our fathers learn to report cultists to police. Report suspects to police, do not hide them,” he said.

Cultism does not pay

Paramount ruler of Elibrada-Emohua, His Royal Highness, Eze Augustine Amadi, said, “The meeting was cordial despite that we did not arrive at a conclusion. The two rival cult groups are not fully represented, but those of them who came accepted to make peace, which was why I said it was cordial and we have rescheduled the meeting to enable those who could not make it attend the next one. Many people have died, the communities have been destroyed and so many families have fled their homes and economy disrupted. This meeting gives us hope that there will be peace soon. I advise our youths to leave anything cultism, it does not pay, it does not bring development to the area and what they are doing is not recorded anywhere because they are not fighting for oil. Why must they continue to kill themselves?, he queried.

They killed, beheaded by nephew – Assor

Secretary-General of Ogbakor-Ikwerre Cultural Organization, Worldwide, Ohna Humphery Assor, lamented saying, “My nephew was beheaded a day before I left for America and because of it, I had to stay for 10 weeks in America which I did not plan just for me to settle down. Since I came back, they have beheaded at least 11 people. It is horrible. We need peace. Everybody wants peace, we are not happy that our children would leave our houses and begin to live in the bush and cause mayhem to the community. It is not the best, so we welcome the idea of peace. The process is on and we commend the chairman of Emohua for this initiative in bringing the boys together for peace. We will pray for them. If only the government will help them acquire some skills, they may be able to settle down.

Police optimistic on peace

Commander, Special Anti-Robber Squad, SARS, who attended the meeting, assured that the needed peace was in sight, promising that the police would not arrest any of the youths, who willingly volunteered to make peace.
