Confusion in NIFOR as two persons emerge Executive Director

By Simon Ebegbulem

BENIN—THERE is confusion at the Nigeria Institute For Oil Palm Research, NIFOR, in Benin City, Edo State, after the Federal Government, through the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Audu Ogbe, gave appointment letters to two persons as substantive Executive Director of the research institution.

In a letter dated November 9, 2017, signed by Mrs A.C. Bawa in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Federal Government appointed Dr Osasuyi Aisuehi as the substantive Executive Director of the institution only for it to write a few days later to say that the appointment was in error and somebody else had been appointed.

Following the tension and confusion which the incident generated,  the Benin National Congress, BNC, a socio-cultural organisation in Edo State, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, warning that the Bini will rise up against the All Progressives Congress, APC,  if their son,  Dr Aisuehi, who already had been announced as the substantive Executive Director of NIFOR, was removed unjustly.
