IBADAN—THE Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji yesterday lost his elder wife, Olori Kudirat Aduke Adetunji. She was aged 71.

When the news filtered in, scores of sympathisers thronged the palace of the monarch to commiserate with him.

According to a statement by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Adeola  Oloko, Olori Adetunji passed away in the early hours of yesterday.

She is survived by her husband, many children and grand-children.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has described the death of Olubadan’s wife as unfortunate and disheartening.

Ajimobi, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, said that he received the news with shock and disbelieve.

The governor described the incident as a big loss, not only to the monarch but also to the people of Ibadan, saying that he was greatly saddened by the passing away of Olori Kudirah.

The statement reads: “Her death is still indeed a big loss, not only to the father, the Olubadan,  Oba Saliu Adetunji but to the entire people of Ibadanland.”
