THE North West Solidarity Forum, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Senator Walid Jubril to urgently dissociate the BoT from the recent endorsement of three national chairmanship candidates by some members of the body.
The forum in a statement by its spokesman, Isa Mohammed, also called on the chairman to call some BoT members actively campaigning for some of the aspirants not to use the name of the body in their partisan actions.
The same plea was also extended to the National Caretaker Committee.
The statement follows weekend’s declaration by some BoT members announcing three of the national chairmanship candidates as having been shortlisted to contest the election at the convention due next month.
The forum responding said: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to some members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), of our great Party, the PDP in which the members erroneously disenfranchised some Aspirants contesting for the office of National Chairman from the Southwest Zone. It was reported that Chief Olabode George and Professor Tunde Adeniran who are both members of the Board of Trustees from the region connived and took the purported decision without due consulting with the Chairman of BoT, Senator Walid Jubril.
Also faulting the action of some BoT members in pushing one of the candidates as the favoured candidate of the BoT.
He said: “This is unconstitutional and must be condemned by all lovers of democracy. The Board of Trustees of the Party has no business in screening or excluding eligible members of the party from contesting any offices they may deem fit.” How can the BOT become a referee in a match they are playing? We therefore call on the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sen. Walid Jubril to disassociate the reverend organ of the Party from such an unholy alliance before it ruins the party of another chance to reclaim power from the failed APC government. Chief Bode George and Professor Adeniran who are both an interested party in the race cannot sit and exclude other Aspirants contesting for the same position. Party members and supporters must rise and condemn this action in its totality.”
The group added by calling “on the National Caretaker Committee (NCC), to intervene urgently on this matter so that the party will not ascend into another crisis.”
