UMUAHIA—THE Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Chief Theodore Orji has predicted a landslide victory for the PDP in the 2019 elections and urged members not to leave the party.
Orji urged the members to remain steadfast in the party and “shun the temptation of jumping from one party to another like people without focus”.
He also warned against opposing Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, saying that it was suicidal to fight an incumbent Governor as he may retaliate with the awesome power that goes with power of incumbency.
Senator Orji spoke weekend, at Okpuala Ngwa, the Headquarters of Isiala Ngwa Council, when PDP leaders and stakeholders in the zone endorsed and adopted him and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to run again in 2019.
Senator Orji, who is the immediate past governor of Abia State, also stressed the need for unity among PDP members to be able to maintain their ground and win elections in the state in the 2019 polls.
“Don’t be perturbed about those who left our party. They were the problem we had and by leaving, they carried away the problem to their new parties.
“PDP remains the party to beat in Abia. We don’t have competitors here. God will strengthen us and put confusion in the camp of our enemies”, Senator Orji said while addressing the meeting.
The Senator however, cautioned against internal bickering and sabotage among party members. He also advised those challenging Governor Ikpeazu to retrace their steps because of the dire consequences of fighting back with the power of incumbency.
According to him, it would amount to political suicide to fight a governor with power of incumbency, especially a sitting Governor because of the enormous power at his disposal.
“Anyone fighting him within and outside the party will not succeed. We must support Ikpeazu, and we must support our party. Okezie is the Governor and must be respected accordingly.
“The worst thing is to be in the party and fight the party. Don’t join the ‘bubuyaya’ [worthless] politicians. They are not stable”, Orji said.
Senator Orji also used the forum to enumerate some of his achievements so far at the senate and promised to deliver more democracy dividends in the months
Meanwhile, rising from the stakeholders meeting, weekend, at Okpuala Ngwa, the Headquarters of Isiala Ngwa Council, the party leaders and members said they endorsed the duo of Senator Orji and Governor Ikpeazu because they have so far done well for their people, saying that they have given good account of themselves so far in office.
