Chief Sibia Aaron, Chairman , Kula Community Development Committee (CDC), Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers, has commended BelemaOil Producing Limited, for engaging youths from the community, including professionals.
Aaron gave the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Kula on Sunday.
He said since oil firm took over the oil facilities in the area from Chevron Nigeria Limited, it had been employing engineers, accountants, surveyors and other professionals from the community.
The CDC chairman said that the oil company had equally completed the process of engaging 1,500 youths of the community for bush clearing.
He disclosed that the company had invited unemployed graduates and non-graduates in the area to register their interest for the job.
“We are happy that BelemaOil is directly engaging youths from its host community to do the bush clearing.
“Now they are to engage over 1500 youths to start work at the bush clearing site,” he said.
“This will somehow create economic activity in the community within the period that the clearing lasts.
“Our graduates will be assigned supervisory role and this is just a way to ensure that they have money to meet their needs,” he said.
The CDC chairman said that the oil firm had also been awarding contracts to people from the area.
He also disclosed that BelemaOil provided portable water for the community pointing out that the people had lacked portable water for over 40 years.
Aaron urged the youths to be disciplined and peaceful in doing the job so as to attract more development to the area.
