The need to appreciate the people behind the scene of beautiful, bold and smart appearance of women hair and their overall appearance, the stylists made Kanekalon , makers of one of the world’s number braids to host Arigato Stylist Event held last weekend at Times Square Event Centre, Ikeja , Lagos.
The award presentation anchored by the duo, ace comedian IdowuKoffi and Oniwo Kyla, saw the organizers STB McCann, publishers of African Hair and Beauty Magazine, the Associations of Hairdressers, Barbers and Cosmetologists in Lagos, honour Mrs Taire Morenike, Woman Editor, Vanguard Newspaper for her contribution to women empowerment.
Guests at the event included founders of Kenakalon from Japan; Director, STB McCann, Mrs Omowunmi Owoduni; the reigning Miss Kanekalon, Miss Benahili Ojeme Faith and the second runner up, Miss Opaluwa Ojotole Tamarai and other timber and calibers in the beauty industry.
Speaking at the event, MD, STB McCann, Mrs Owodunni said the event was part of Kaneka Corporation Japan, makers of Kanekalon fiber whose brands included Darling, Nina and Expression , to appreciate stylists who have continued to play a vital role in the Nigerian hair industry.
Mrs Owodunni said that Kanekalon’s ultimate goal was to promote inner beauty and strength of Nigerian women by not only having products of high quality, but also to create a platform for the intellectual, physical and financial empowerment of the female gender.
Her words, “Aside Kanekalon having one of the finest hair products, the company also creates platforms for the overall empowerment of the female gender. We equip our women intellectually, physically and financially through various ways. And one of the ways is through constant appreciation of all stakeholders in the beauty industry,“ Mrs. Owoduni added.
“Again, the choice to honour our stylists is for their enormous contribution to Kanekalon over the years for supporting and patrronising our brand.
For Mr Tony Smith, publisher of African Hair and Beauty Magazine, his choice to partner Kanekalon company was for their durability, affordability and the aesthetic aura of their products. “ You know Kanekalon is known worldwide for quality not only in the hair beauty industry, but for other products they are into,” noted Mr Smith.
Expressing joy on how winning Miss Kanekalon 2017 has impacted her life, Faith said that Miss Kanekalon pageant has not only made her dreams realistic, but has boosted her self esteem and opened opportunities for her.
Faith who thanked her stylist for contributing to her winning the pageant said,” It is one thing to dream, it is another to achieve your dreams. Since I won the pageant, my self esteem has increased as I was usually a shy person. But, now I can express myself and new opportunities opened to me,” added the petite beauty
Corroborating Faith claim, the Miss Kanekalon second runner up, Tamarai has this to say, “I call on everyone to apply for 2018 Miss Kanekalon. This is because Kanekalon fulfils all its promises.
On what she has to gain as a beauty queen, the outspoken lady said, “ Kanekalon has helped me built my confidence. And they empower women financially, socially and through mobility,“ addedTamarai
One of the recipients of award of appreciation was MrsAbari-Ajibola Surat, President, Nigerian Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetologist, Lagos Chapter.
The event saw guests treated to an evening of wine, dance and music, accompanied with various indigenous and intercontinental meals.
