Ijaw-youths
Stories by Emma Amaize, Regional Editor, South-South
FOR several months running, the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, apex body of Ijaw youths worldwide has been in a row with two youthful lawyers, Pereotubo Oweilaemi Esq and Eric Omare Esq. claiming to be President of the well-known group.
Despite the efforts of the Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Dickson, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsely Otuaro, and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Senator Edwin Clark and other Ijaw leaders to lay the matter to rest, there is no respite, as each struts the landscape as IYC president, making mockery of the enviable youth body.
There are at least two ongoing cases in court relating to the leadership of IYC. Only the court has power under the laws of the land to determine the legally elected president and other executive council members with an obligatory effect.
Oweelaemi and Omare, who responded to an inquiry by Saturday Vanguard still stood their grounds.
