Enugu LG election still holds tomorrow – Govt

NUGU—The Enugu State Government has dispelled rumour making the rounds that the November 4 local government election would be put on hold over a suit instituted by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Addressing journalists Thursday on recent developments concerning the election, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on inter-governmental affairs and electoral process, Barr. Vincent Obetta said the government was optimistic that the election would hold as scheduled.

He noted that there was no legal hurdle on the way of the exercise and urged the residents to take active part in electing their leaders.

Obetta declared that “following the assurances and the preparedness of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, for the conduct of a free and fair elections scheduled for 4th November, 2017, I call on the people of Enugu State to disregard the news making the rounds that the Local Government elections may not hold as scheduled following the suit filed by one of the opposition political parties in the state”.
