Ebonyi State Development Association, ESDA, an association of indigenes of Ebonyi, yesterday, said that the state Governor Dave Umahi will empower 520 street traders who are indigenes of the state and resident in Lagos to mark this year’s Ebonyi Cultural Day.
Speaking during a press conference to announce Ebonyi Cultural Day billed to hold tomorrow at National Stadium Lagos, the Coordinating Chairman, Professor Williams Olughu, said that the cultural day is to showcase the great heritage of the people of Ebonyi state.
According to him, “520 persons will be empowered this year because of the programme. We are geared to rehabilitate our people and let them understand themselves. We are going to showcase our food, people and masquerade.”
President of ESDA, Mr. Paul Ikele said Ebonyi state indigenes are rated as the lead street traders and hawkers in Nigeria and further said: “N250, 000 each will be given to the 520 persons.” He said the event will be a display of cultural affinity.
The Chairman of Ebonyi Cultural Day and Chief Executive Officer of Orient Global Manufacturing Company Limited, Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii said that he is privileged to have been chosen to be the Chairman of the occasion. He thanked the Governor of the state for the great work he is doing to develop the state. According to him, “Dave Umahi is the best performing governor Ebonyi has ever had.”
He, however, endorsed him for second term.
Ikele said that a former governor of the state, Dr. Sam Egwu will be given an award, for his contribution to the development of the state and ESDA. He said the governor of the state, Ebonyi national and state assembly members, among others, will grace the event. He further said that after the event the stadium, there will be a dinner party at The Lilygate Hotel in Lekki Phase 1.
