ASABA—ITSEKIRI indegenes numbering over 1,000 from Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, have stormed the state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secretariat in protest against the alleged imposition of Mr Taye Tuoyo as the party’s chairmanship candidate for the January 6, 2018 local government election.

Insisting that Mr Johnbul Edema is their prefered candidate for the position, the protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as, “We say no to imposition of candidate on us”; “It is the turn of Orere to produce chairman of Warri South West”, among others, said they would resist any attempt to impose a candidate on them.

The protesters, who were drawn from six of the 11 wards in the local government area,  insisted that it was their turn to produce the chairman of the local government council, urging Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene in the matter.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Mr Andrew Igban said: “This is injustice and we are opposed to the imposition of Tuoyo on the Itsekiri of Warri South West.”
