ASABA—CHAIRMAN of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Jones Erue, has berated Niger Delta Coalition over allegation of complicity it levelled against Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Uguru Usani, in a recent threat of Niger Delta Avengers to renew bombing of oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta.
Speaking with newsmen in Asaba, Erue described the allegation as a cheap blackmail, alleging that the group resorted to blackmail when Kachikwu declined to offer contract of lifting petroleum products.
Noting that the group founding member (name withheld) is a member of the APC, he said: “This is an unfortunate statement that the party will take exception to,” reiterating that the ministers had stood on the path of peace in ensuring that lasting peace returns to the region.
He alleged that the Niger Delta Avengers have concluded plans to take the authority of the youth leader of the APC to call for youth meeting in Bomadi, saying: “I called the youth leader to stop that nonsense because the party will not take lawlessness in whatever form it comes.
“Since they could not get it from the back door, they want to attack their personalities. The party frowns at this and we will no longer tolerate it.”
On the preparedness of the party for the forthcoming local government election in the state, he said: “We are on ground more than the PDP, we are more popular and more acceptable, we know that the people have finished with the PDP because the hardship is too much.”
