Lagos – A commercial driver, Kadiri Raman, 39, who allegedly stole a Volkswagen bus valued at N700, 000 was on Thursday arraigned in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who resides in Allied Street in Maskara area of Ketu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 11 at Maskara, ketu, Lagos.
He said the complainant, Faleye Olalepe, an official of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), reported the matter at the Alapere Police Station, Lagos.
Ihiehie said the complainant handed over the bus with registration no., EPE 625 SP, to the accused to use and remit N7, 000 daily until he completed the remittance of N700, 000.
“The accused however, failed to remit any money. He claimed that the bus was stolen from where he packed it, along Maskara Road in Ketu,’’ he said.
Ihiehie said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling the Magistrate, Mrs O.S. Amzat, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should be blood relations of the accused and they should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Amzat said the accused should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 6 for mention. (NAN)
