BENIN CITY — THE Bini National Congress (BNC), a socio-cultural organization of the Bini people of Edo State, has concluded plans to hold a “Benin Fundamental Reception” for the national Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
The event, billed to hold next month in Benin City, will have Chief Oyegun as the recipient of the 9th Benin National Award, whose plaque is to be unveiled by prominent businessman, Capt (Dr.) Hosa Okunbo.
A statement by BNC president, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo indicated that the occasion will be presided over by former Minister of State, Works, Dr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki as Special Guest of Honour.
Speaking with Vanguard, Chief Odigie-Oyegun said that the BNC honour is one he is proud to receive.
“You see, I get invitations to receive awards by the dozens, but this is one I will take, because it is a recognition. I’m not a man for honours; I could have taken chieftaincies here and there. It was, and is still a herculean task keeping our party, the APC together, but we are doing it and the party is growing. So, when my people came and brought this honour, I said maybe it’s time I allowed myself to be celebrated; that’s why.”
Edokpolo added in the BNC statement that apart from projecting the organic attributes of the average Benin man which include resilience in the face of daunting challenges, uprightness in community related agitations, and steadfastness in the pursuits of the larger picture, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was endorsed by the Board of Trustees of the Benin National Congress for the Benin Fundamental Reception – following the rising momentous crave for his celebration because of the role he played in stabilizing the nation about two months ago – while President Buhari was on medical vacation.
“He has demonstrated the defining characters of true Benins, it’s high time he is honoured. We are making elaborate arrangements to make the day remarkable in the annals of celebrated icons in Nigeria.”
