African Wrestling tourney:  Wike assures wrestlers of safety

Rivers State governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike has assured the wrestlers participating at the maiden of the tournament which he is sponsoring and indeed all the wrestlers coming for the African Wrestling Tournament in February next year to be hosted  in the state of their safety during and after the championship.

Governor Wike gave the assurance yesterday while declaring the National Open championship open at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt.

He said all the 54 countries coming for the African Wrestling Championship next year in

the state should have nothing to be afraid of, adding that Rivers state is peaceful and accommodating.

The governor also reaffirmed his resolve to be a good host by the time the  African continent converges in Port Harcourt and commended the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation , Dr Daniel Igali who fought to ensure that Nigeria and  indeed, Rivers State got the hosting right to this tournament.

He said, “let me say categorically, that the government of Rivers state will support the Nigeria Wrestling Federation with all it takes to successfully host the African Wrestling Championship come February 2018. Today in Rivers state, we have seen competitions, a lot of conferences and a lot of workshops taking place here.

We have 54 countries in Rivers state which shows that the state is the destination for people to come to. River state is peaceful and safe and will continue to wax stronger and stronger.”
