THE Edo State police command has obtained a warrant of arrest from the Benin High Court to effect the arrest of the former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie over her alleged refusal to return the remaining one vehicle belonging to the House in her possession.
The lawmaker who is currently on suspension from the House had returned three out of the four vehicles in her possession and promised to return the remaining one which according to her she sold long ago.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that the matter was being resolved amicably by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state until it took a new twist. It was gathered that policemen attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the state Command, stormed her Benin residence at the early hours of yesterday to arrest her but she was not at home.
Saturday Vanguard was reliably informed that the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto had insisted that the vehicle be returned. When Saturday Vanguard contacted the Speaker as regards the latest move to arrest Ativie, he confirmed the incident insisting that the law should take its course.
He said: ¨I think we have given the former Deputy Speaker enough time to return the remaining vehicle and she failed to do so. So there is nothing wrong if the police are doing their job. One person cannot hold the entire lawmakers to ransom. If you look at other members of the former leadership, we all are working together without any problem so why is her own different?
¨So I don´t have personal issues against her. She actually created this problem for herself and she knows. It is unfortunate. Let the police do their work and that is my reaction to the issue¨ he stated.
