Abuja – The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 48-year-old man, Mallam Sanusi Reyyanu, in an FCT Grade 1 Area Court, Lugbe, for a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Rayyanu is a resident of plot 13F Williams Street, Life Camp, Abuja.
The prosecutor, Miss Vivian Oporomo, told the court that one Muazu Yunusa of FHA Lugbe, Abuja, reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Station on Aug. 27.
Oporomo told the court that during the last Eid-el-Kabir period, Rayyanu deceived the complainant to collect seven rams valued N655, 000.
She said that Rayyanu told the complainant to convey the said rams to his house at Life Camp before payment but after taking the possession of the rams, he escaped to an unknown place.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code
Rayyanu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Garba, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
Garba said the surety must be at least a Grade Level 12 officer in the Federal Civil Service and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also said that the surety should submit two recent passport photographs to the court and possess a reasonable means of identification.
Garba adjourned the case till Oct. 20 for trial. (NAN)
