THE new Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo, asssumed office, yesterday.
He took over from CP Haliru Gwandu, who assumed office in Edo on September 22, 2016.
Mr Kokumo, who was CP Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja, arrived the state Police Command Headquarters about 3:51pm, yesterday.
After inspecting the sentry he was ushered into the CP’s office where he was received by his predecessor, CP Gwandu.
Thereafter, a brief closed-door handover ceremony was held as CP Gwandu boarded his waiting official vehicle and left the police command headquarters, Benin City about 4pm.
CP Kokumo, who thanked the men and officers of the command for the reception accorded him, said he had no time to waste and is commencing work immediately.
Stakeholders in Edo State called for Gwandu’s redeployment following the invasion of the state by kidnappers and armed robbers, which led to the deaths of over 20 persons including three police officers.
The whereabouts of ace musician, Osayomore Joseph, who was kidnapped, three weeks ago, is still unknown. There is anxiety in his family and the entire state over the state of his health. It is the responsibility of CP Kokumo to tackle the spate of kidnappings in the state.
