AHEAD of the forthcoming local government election in Delta State, Egbema Advancement Movement has called on Delta State governor, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa to ensure that the Ijaw are given the chairmanship slot in Warri North Local Government Area, LGA, claiming that the Ijaw were being marginalised.
It specifically lamented that no Ijaw person has ever emerged as chairman of the LGA since its creation 26 years ago. Briefing newsmen in Warri, President of the group, Beauty Agbaibor lamented that the Ijaw areas in the LGA were delineated into four wards while the Itsekiri got six wards. She further said there was an agreement for the Ijaw to produce the local government chairman.
She, however, called for an equitable distribution of political offices in order to promote harmony between the Ijaw and Itsekiri in the LGA.
The Vice President of the group, Mr. Thompson Abanara, who is also a member of the Delta State Land and Waterway Security, said the alleged marginalization of the Ijaw in Warri North would no longer be tolerated.
