CALEB University, Imota, Lagos, is set to honour the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Patience Ambode, during its seventh convocation ceremony slated for Friday.
Vice-Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Professor Ayandiji Daniel Aina, while addressing journalists at the pre-convocation press conference explained the choice of the duo. He said that the choice of the Ooni of Ife and Mrs Ambode were borne out of the passion to honour distinguished persons who represent traditional institution in the South West and to also honour someone who occupies the family virtue cadre of Caleb University.
He noted that for those who represent traditional institutions from the South West of Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife stands out, adding that he is one of the Obas that represents virtue. Prof Aina said: “He is young, God fearing and could go to any length to unite Nigeria. These are very unique characteristics you wont find in many Obas.
Though there are other imperial majesty cadres around Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife is highlighted because he is a young person who mobilises the bank of industry to empower the youths. He is that singular Oba in the South West who is after peace and unity, going everywhere in the South West even to the Obas that are junior to him, talking about unity. He is an imperial majesty who stated that he still believes in the King of kings.”
On the choice of Mrs Ambode, the vice-chancellor said she was a person who occupies the family virtue cadre of Caleb University role of honour.
He noted, “She is an unassuming First Lady, someone that epitomises the best of family virtues. She represents an inspiration to waiting mothers that God can answer your prayers. She represents the virtue of patience, people who will not cut corners and encourage others to stay under authorities. She is a person who is supportive of the husband in the role he plays as the governor of Lagos State.”
However, Professor Aina, made it clear that the honour to be given to the duo are not honorary degrees, but plaques. He said, “what we are doing is to enlist them into the Caleb University role of honour by given them the plaque of excellence. The role of honour concept is to look at people representing certain virtues in the society and admit them into a special class of honour.
“On Friday, during the convocation of the 409 graduating students, the Ooni of Ife and the First Lady of Lagos State will be given the plaques, while their role of honour would be unveiled January 21, 2018 during the Founder’s Day. You need to have accepted the plaque before your name would be unveiled for the honour.”
