Two men — Lekan Dauda and Ayobami Haruna — who allegedly broke into a house and stole N550,000 jewellery and phones, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Dauda, 23, and Haruna, 31 — whose addresses are unknown, are facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, housebreaking and damage.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher John, the offences were committed on Oct. 11 at Isokan Estate, Ayobo, a Lagos suburb.
John said the accused allegedly broke into Mrs Mutiatu Boladele’s house and stole jewellery and phones valued at N550,000.
“In the process of damaging a window net, Boladale caught the duo in the act and alerted her neighbours for help.
“The accused were apprehended with the help of the neighbours,’’ he told the court.
The offences contravened Sections 278, 308, 339 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Newsmen report that Sections 278 and 308 stipulate three years imprisonment each for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, granted the accused a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 27 for mention.
