Zambia will name their foreign professionals today for next month’s World Cup qualifier in Nigeria with skipper Rainford Kalaba likely to be shut out.
Today’s media briefing in Lusaka will also give details of the team’s preparation as well as departure to Nigeria for the October 7 clash in Uyo.
TP Mazembe star Kalaba missed the home leg against Algeria earlier this month due to a booking suspension.
But even before then he has endured a frosty relationship with coach Wedson Nyirenda.
This was again highlighted during an AFCON 2019 qualifier at home against Mozambique in June when he was changed and he went straight to the shower and then the stands.
South Africa-based striker Brain Mwila, who has been the country’s most prolific striker in international football this year, could also miss out as he is just recovering from a knee injury from the 3-1 home win against Algeria earlier this month.
Otherwise, ‘Wada’, as Nyirenda is widely referred to, will stick with the overseas professionals who put Algeria to sword home and away this month.
Goalkeeper and captain Kennedy Mweene, Russia-based Fashion Sakala, Emmanuel Banda from KV Oostende as well as the Red Bull Salzburg pair of Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu.
