warri—His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwole, the Olu of Warri, has called for speedy completion of the Ifiekporo-Ubeji Road project, Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, to avoid further destruction of property and threat to lives posed by the badly damaged road.

His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri, his wife and palace chiefs during the visit to scene of Thursday’s fuel tanker fire which razed buildings in Ubeji, Warri South LGA, Delta State.

The Warri monarch, yesterday, made the appeal when he visited Ubeji to assess the damage and empathise with victims of Thursday’s fuel tanker which fell on a collapsed portion of the road, resulting in a wild fire which razed buildings and other property worth millions of naira.

The Olu, who assured that relief materials were underway to assist those who lost property to the inferno, commended Governor  Ifeanyi Okowa for swiftly sending a delegation to ascertain the extent of damage and restating government’s concern for better life for the people of Ubeji.

He said: “The loss of property is painful for those affected, particularly in these difficult times, but we thank God no life was lost in the accident which was most avoidable if the road was in good condition. I enjoin the contractor handling the road expansion project to expedite work to avoid reoccurrence of the unfortunate incident.”

He commended Governor Okowa for re-awarding the road project to another contractor, stressing that when completed, it will open up other Itsekiri communities.
