NISSAN Motor Co., Ltd. has reached a new milestone with 150 million vehicles produced globally. It took 73 years for Nissan to produce its first 100 million vehicles after the company was  founded in 1933, and another 11 years to build the last 50 million.

Nissan sees this achievement as a result of 84 years of continued support from all of its stakeholders worldwide, including employees, dealers, suppliers and local communities, as well as the numerous customers who have chosen cars produced by Nissan.

When Nissan reached the 100 million vehicle milestone in 2006, 76.5 per cent of the total vehicles had been produced in Japan. Localization of production accelerated in the past 11 years, during which 76.5 per cent of the 50 million Nissan vehicles were made outside Japan – driven in particular in the U.S. and China. Following this latest milestone, Nissan remains committed to delivering cars that satisfy its customers.

Over the years, Nissan has produced class leading vehicles in the sedan, sports utility vehicle and commercial vehicle segments. From the small Nissan Micra to powerful saloons like Sunny, Tiida, Almera, Maxima and Teana, Nissan has ruled that the SUV market segment with models like Pathfinder, Rogue, Patrol, Xtera etc. Its electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf was sometimes named European Car of the Year.

Nissan is also strong in the commercial vehicle segment with both small and big pickup vehicles as well as the bus segment where it rules with the Urvan and Civilian buses. In addition to this the renowned automaker has shown its strength in the sports car segment with every successful model of the Nissan 350 and 370 coupes and convertibles which have won best prizes in their segments.

It is important to note that Infiniti brand is a member of the Nissan family which makes only luxury sport utility vehicles and sedans for customers. The Infiniti is known for its creativity and luxury in the automobile world just like Lexus makes luxury vehicles for Toyota and Acura for Honda.

Also not many know that the Datsun series too is a members of the Nissan family. They create competitively priced cars for their customers.

In Nigeria, however, Nissan has been on the road for close to 50 years. A Nissan plant was inaugurated in Nigeria barely four years ago but the Federal Government’s policies have held the country down over the period as the plant is about going moribund like Volkswagen and other plants in Nigeria.
