ENUGU—NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, Enugu State chapter has said that if all the ailing industries in Enugu State are revived, it will not only improve revenue earning for the state but would reduce unemployment.
Chairman of the congress, Mr Virginus Nwobodo, who disclosed this to newsmen said the organised labour and the state government have been meeting to see to the revival of the industries with a view to taking the teeming unemployed youths off the streets.
Nwobodo said if about four to five ailing industries are revitalised, unemployment would be reduced to the barest minimum, which would, to a large extent, reduce crime in the state.
“We have been meeting with government to revive the ailing industries. There will be employment and security of lives and property will be assured. If we have four to five industries fully working, unemployment will be reduced,” Nwobodo said.
Nwobodo also spoke on the workers remuneration, saying that though they are not paid the correct minimum wage, they still believe that in due course, the issue would be revisited, pointing out that they have not embarked on strike to that effect because they are being paid regularly.
