KATSINA—Robbers, in the early hours of yesterday, raided 10 houses in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, and engaged policemen that responded to a distress call in a shootout.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said the robbers stormed the area, shooting sporadically, adding that the operation lasted for about two hours— from 1:30a.m. to 3:15a.m.
Contacted, spokesman for Katsina State Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.
Isah said they got a distress call at 1:35a.m. in the morning and mobilised men of the Anti-Robbery Squads, SARS, who swung into action.
He said a five-man gang engaged the Police in a shootout, after which the robbers were chased into Dayawa in Kafur Local Government Area.
The spokesperson of the Command said the anti-robbery squad is still combing the neighbourhood and bushes in search of the robbers.
The Police Public Relations Officer added that no case of arrest, injury or stolen properties have been made.
