Investigate attacks on Hausa in Rivers, Ganduje tells FG

KANO—Kano State governor, Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, yesterday appealed to the Federal Government to investigate alleged   attacks on Hausa community in Rivers State by suspected IPOB members Tuesday evening.

A visibly touched Ganduje’s said: “The Federal Government should quickly investigate the violent attacks on Hausa community in Rivers and ensure that those behind it are not only punished but also sanctioned to served as deterrent.”

Addressing the leadership of Northern Youth Coalition who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Governor Ganduje warned that “if those behind the attack are not punished, the case will keep recurring and possibly lead to something else.”

In the same vein Governor Ganduje cautioned against actions or inaction that would lead to reprisals, stressing that two wrongs could never make a right.

“IPOB is wrong in their violence response to issues, and this cannot be a yardstick upon which somebody could use to cause mayhem against innocent citizens,’’ he said.

The government described what was happening in the South East was very unfortunate, adding that every efforts to douse it should be welcomed and supported by all.

The governor described calls for restraints by the Northern Youth as a patriotic moves that should be supported.

“This disposition of the Northern Youth shows that they stand by one united Nigeria devoid of rancor and instability, and this should be commended and also be emulated,’’ he said.

Governor Ganduje also commended his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, for his quick intervention, while he also lauding the military for their efforts in tackling the uprising.
