Fear grips Ekwueme’s home town as construction company vacates erosion site

By Vincent Ujumadu

Awka— FRESH fears have emerged on the threat of gully erosion at Oko, the home town of former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, as the construction company handling the project had moved out of the site due to poor funding.

Rhino Construction Services Company handling the gully erosion projects at Nanka and Oko communities, both in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, where several hectares of land have been washed away by erosion, pulled out of the area as it was gathered that the company was owed huge sums of money for work already done.

A staff of the company said they were moving out after completion of the first phase of  the job that helped to reduce the menacing gully erosion, adding that the company had been waiting for over a year for the commencement of the second phase of the job, but government had failed to award the project.
