BENIN—Auchi Traditional Council, Edo State, has said “the coup in Edo State House of Assembly was successful, so let them enjoy their spoils of office.”
The statement was in reaction to comments credited to traditional rulers from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state dissociating themselves from a meeting held at the Palace of the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Haliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, where royal fathers from Edo North and Edo Central senatorial zones called for the return of the Speakership of the state House of Assembly to the area.
The Dania of Auchi Kingdom, Alhaji Usman Abudah, told Vanguard that no fewer than 25 traditional rulers from Edo North and Edo Central attended the meeting, where a communiqué was issued on the crisis in the state House of Assembly.
Akoko-Edo monarchs
Recall that traditional rulers from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, while drumming support for the current Speaker, who hails from the area at a meeting with him on Tuesday, said the legislative arm of government had the right to elect its leaders and stressed the need for traditional rulers to steer clear of the politics of the House.
They dissociated themselves from the meeting at the Otaru’s palace and its outcome.
…reaction
However, according to Alhaji Abudah, “the traditional rulers from Edo North and Edo Central that attended the meeting were 25.
“The truth has to be said; the Otaru will never go after stipends from the people’s table.
“Edo Central senatorial zone must be given its rightful position in the tripod that holds demo-cracy intact in Edo State.
“The coup in Edo State House of Assembly was successful, so let them enjoy their spoils of office.”
