The court, however, adjourned the matter sine die, (indefinitely) pending the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP’s report.

Dike, who allegedly murdered his eight-year-old niece, escaped from the custody of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, was arraigned after he was re-arrested in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, two weeks later.

He was, Monday, paraded by the Police in Port Harcourt.

He is facing a count charge of murder, a capital offence.

The charge sheet read: “That you Ifeanyichukwu Maxwell Dike, on August 18, at 8, Messiah Close, Eliozu, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did kill one Chikamso Mezuwuba, aged 8, by administering stupefying substance on her in order to obtain her sensory organs, which include tongue, ear, eyes, nipple, clitoris, nose, fingers with the use of knife and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”

The charge was not read to the suspect and plea was not taken when the matter came up in court, but Chief Magistrate A. O. Amadi-Nna (Esq.) declined jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Amadi-Nna ordered the registrar of the court to forward the case file to the DPP for legal advice.

Meanwhile, the defense counsel, Mr. Lezima Amegua, has said he got involved in the matter for the sake of justice.

He expressed confidence in the judiciary, stressing that justice must be dispensed in the matter.

Similarly, the prosecution counsel, Superintendent Enoch George, noted that every legal step must be taken to ensure justice for the murdered Chikamso.
