UYO—AKWA Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muazu Zubairu, weekend, paraded suspected ring leader of a notorious kidnap gang.
Mr. Zubairu, who after parading the kidnap kingpin, Okon Edem Udofia, alleged to have executed series of high profile cases of kidnapping-for-ransom in the state, reiterated his vow to flush out criminals out of the state.
According to CP Zubairu, Udofia, 26, currently helping men of the intelligence unit of the Command to track down other accomplices still on the run, had confessed to being the leader of a terror group operating in the state that specialised in abducting wealthy individuals for ransom.
He disclosed that Udofia planned with his gang and abducted one Daniel Maurice Ekpenyong, the personal aide to the state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo.
It was learned that Obong Ekpo paid heavily to secure the release of the victim, who doubles as his personal driver.
Narrating how the gang leader was caged, the Police boss said: “Based on intelligence received, our men from the anti-kidnapping squad swung into action and arrested the suspect.”
He said the suspect will be charged to court soon after investigations have been concluded and urged the civil society to partner security agencies with a view to ridding the state of criminal elements.
According to the CP, “the Police cannot do it alone, because these criminals live among the people and the people know them.”
He assured members of the public that the identity of those who volunteer information to the Police will be protected.
He warned persons with criminal tendencies to relocate from the state or be smoked out.
