Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State

By Emmanuel Ayungbe

A Socio-Political Organization, Akwa Ibom Consolidated Alliance(ACA) has lauded the state Governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for keeping the vision of the founding fathers of  the state alive through massive investment in agriculture and industrialization in the state.

The President of the group, Dr. Andrew Unwanta, who spoke to Vanguard, yesterday, said the state is gradually becoming the choice destination for investors as a result of industrialization policy implemented by successive governments in the state.

In his word,”there is so much to celebrate, thirty years after its creation from Cross River State by the erstwhile administration of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in September 23rd 1987. The state has achieved much in the area of industrialization, agriculture and job creation.

“We inherited manpower without structures, Uyo which became state capital was a glorified village with track roads and very poor habitation “.

He noted that in terms of infrastructural development the state has moved far ahead of Cross River state from which Akwa Ibom was carved out 30 years ago.

Stressing that,”the people and government of Akwa Ibom state have reasons to celebrate. When the state was created, we inherited nothing tangible as assets. Uyo was made the state capital. The then leadership of Uyo Local Government Council surrendered their uncompleted secretariat building which we used as government house now known as government House annex”.

The only delay the state recorded in infrastructural development, he said can only be traced to the twelve years  of military rule in the country.

Unwanta recalled that the only noticeable development in the state during the military era is the state secretariat building by Idongesit Nkanga.

He  applauded  Governor Udom Emmanuel for what he described as  superior performance adding, Akwa Ibom state is far ahead of other states created about the same time.

Unwanta added that even in the face of recession, “the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo last week commissionedpeople-oriented projects executed by the present administration”.
