ENUGU—Enugu State commissioner for Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Obinna Mbaeke, has disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has been reducing poverty rate in the state through direct economic empowerments, skills acquisition and wealth generation strategies.
Mbaeke said the on-going financial empowerment of traders in the state is a way of boosting their wealth generation, just like the training of 1,700 youths in the state for different skills.
He further disclosed that the state in conjunction with the federal government is executing Conditional Cash Transfer, aimed at alleviating 500 very poor persons in every community of the state.
Mbaeke who made the disclosure during an interview with newsmen in Enugu, yesterday, dismissed insinuation in some quaters that Governor Ugwuanyi was empowering traders in the state for political reasons.
He said that through the raffle draws obtained by traders free of charge, more than 300 traders in the state have benefitted N50, 000 each to help them expand their businesses.
Mbaeke said: “This government came on board, with a four-point agenda. That agenda is based on empowerment generation, good governance and social service; rural development and security.
“Government has been doing everything within its scarce resources to ensure the agenda is faithfully executed. It is not for politics, its just for the people to feel the impact of what we are doing. Government is being passionate about the less privileged.”
