KATSINA – The Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA says it has disbursed the sum of Two million naira as humanitarian support in form of cash to victims of various disaster in the state.
Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Aminu Garba Waziri disclosed this to Vanguard correspondent.
Waziri said the sum was disbursed to victims of flood disaster in Dakama, Kaita Local government area, victim of rainstorm in Jangehe Nwala, Katsina and fire disaster victims in Mahuta.
He gave the breakdown as follows: “Victims of rainstorm in Jangehe Nwale where one teenager died, his parents benefited N250,000 while other 10 victims get N25,000 each summing up to N500,000.
“Victims of flood disaster in Kaita LGA, Dankama numbering about 48 victims gets N1 million while victims of fire disaster in Mahuta market where shop owners were compensated to the tune of N500,000,” the Executive Secretary said.
In a related development, Dr. Waziri said it has commenced the third round of relief interventions to the affected persons.
To this end, Dr. Waziri said about 307 people benefits from the distribution of building materials mainly cement and roofing sheets totalling 1,352 bags and 94bundles respectively.
According to him, “We have today commence the third round of relief interventions to the persons affected by the Inwala-Jangefe rainstorm disaster recently.
“This is in addition to the earlier intervention given including cash support to the injured and to the deceased family.
“This was done based on the magnitude per household. We wish to thank His Excellency, the leader and Initiator of Katsina Restoration Project, The Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari for given us the opportynity to serve our people.
“Similar exercise will be conducted in Malumfashi and Kankara next week,” Dr. Waziri stated.
