Ahead of the August 29 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primary election, where the candidate of the party for the November 18, 2017 Governorship election in Anambra state, will emerge, former Councillorship candidates of the party have endorsed Dr Alex Obiogbolu as their candidate, and urged delegates for the primary to massively vote for him.

The PDP Councillorship candidates’ endorsement of Dr Obiogbolu was contained in a statement they signed and made available to newsmen yesterday after their meeting, where they agreed that Obiogbolu has a very rich political pedigree and is the oldest party member among the contestants. They added that his consistency in staying with the party despite all storms and crises remains unequalled.
“We have decided to support one of the aspirants and today we are making it open that we are supporting Dr Alex Obiogbolu, the Oganiru Anambra exponent, such that our voice can be heard and we can together ensure the emergence of the most capable candidate who will present us with the best chance of winning the governorship election.
“We have assessed all the aspirants who have expressed interest to run for Anambra State governorship election and considered their manifestos, antecedents, and political history before giving the candidature of Dr Obiogbolu a nod as the person we have chosen as the right candidate to fly the party’s flag on November 18.
“We the Anambra State Forum of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, former Councillorship candidates have endorsed the candidature of Dr Alex Obiogbolu, because he has a very rich political pedigree and is the oldest party member among the aspirants who have consistently stayed with the party despite all storms and crises, making his record unequalled.
“PDP is in dire need of a grassroots politician who has extensive network of political associates and friends, who know them on first name basis.
“Obiogbolu is that person, he is a household name in PDP who has continued to support the party financially since 1998. “He paid part of the rent for the state secretariat when the landlord threatened to evict the party due to backlog of rent arrears,” they added.
