Omo-Agege: Re-defining constituency empowerment

By Ufuoma Eugene Ohwevwo

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly is inevitably turning out to be news-maker in every sense as it concerns the Urhobo nation and its people. While the Urhobo were yet reveling in his outstanding, purposeful and energetic representation of their national effort at the red chambers of the National Assembly, he has yet embarked on constituency empowerment programme that has never been seen or heard of in Urhobo political history.

Ovie Omo Agege,

There is no gainsaying that Sen. Omo-Agege empowerment initiative has for some time been the topic of discussion among the Urhobo who are obviously overwhelmed by the large-heartedness and uncurtailed egalitarian disposition of the senator representing them.

Sen. Omo-Agege, has since the first phase of his Constituency empowerment programme which began about a month ago and have seen him visit four out of the eight local government areas in Delta Central Senatorial district, giving substantial financial assistance to well over 1,200 persons, who are mostly the indigent and economically disadvantaged ( petty traders, okada riders, artisans, etc) without recourse to their political persuasion and leaning.

Perhaps, if there is one thing that was noticeable in the smiles and joy in the faces of most of the beneficiaries of the Senator’s Constituency empowerment programme, it is the fact that, apart from being extremely grateful to the Senator, they were sure that the financial assistance will go a long way in giving boost and verve to their respective businesses. And who knows, this could just be turning point in their economic wellbeing and stability.

It will certainly not be an overstatement that assert here that Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has obviously redefined what is commonly known in our political clime as ‘’Constituency Empowerment’’ in Delta Central Senatorial district.

It is premised on the above that I wish to enjoin the Urhobo class particularly those in elected political offices and as well as those holding appointive offices to take a cue from the selfless and altruistic initiative of Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege.

It will indeed serve the best interest of the Urhobo nation when her political office holders give priority attention to the wellbeing of indigent Urhobo as steps in this direction will go a long way in galvanizing the overall development of the Urhobo nation.
