ABEOKUTA—The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, disclosed that 13 suspects have been arrested in connection with the assassination of Olowo of Owoland in Yewa South Local Government area  of the state, late Oba Patrick Fasinu.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu said this while parading 43 suspects arrested across the state for various offences ranging from murder to kidnapping, armed robbery and human trafficking at the state Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The late Oba Fasinu was reportedly assassinated, dismembered and burnt with his car on July 26 on the road between Ijako and Isagbo in Oke-Odan area while returning to his palace after the traditional council meeting.

The Yewa Traditional Council had last week called on the Nigerian Police and the State Government to fish out killers of the monarch and ensure they were brought to justice.

Fielding questions from newsmen shortly before the parade, Iliyasu disclosed that the suspects were arrested after a diligent investigation, saying that the command would soon charge them to court.

Iliyasu said: “We have discreetly and diligently carried out our investigation into that case (monarch’s assassination) and we have 13 suspects in our cell, apprehended with regard to that crime and very soon, they will be charged to court.”

Meanwhile, the command paraded a 33-year-old Azeez Kilani, who allegedly stole cassava tubers and subsequently killed the farm owner, David Adima at Sojulu village, Ibogun in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
