NDIC moves to boost deposit insurance in West Africa

THE Nigeria Deposit Insurance  Corporation (NDIC) has commenced moves to enhance development of deposit insurance in West Africa.

NDIC’s Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Hadji Birchi, disclosed this in a statement announcing a five-day capacity building programme for top officials of the newly established Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC).

He said: “The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) is organising a five-day capacity building programme for senior officials of Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC) as part of the NDIC’s efforts to assist member countries in the West African sub region to comprehend the relevance of Deposit Insurance System (DIS) in ensuring financial system stability.

“The three officials of the GDPC who are attending the training programme are: Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC), Mr. Franklin Belnye; an official of the GDPC, Mrs. Aimee Mwinila-Youri and Mr. Mustapha Sarbeng of the Finance Department.”
