The Managing Director/Chief Executive of Medview Airline, Alhaji Muneer Bankole, has urged the federal government to create the environment for indigenous airlines to thrive.
Bankole, who spoke with journalists in Ilorin on the sidelines of the successful airlifting of pilgrims from the Kwara State capital by his airline for this year Hajj exercise, said government had no business being in business .
He recalled with nostalgia that having worked in Nigeria Airways for over thirty years, the collapse of the airways was due to 80% problems caused by government.
His words,”On the national carrier,i will tell you that we have gotten beyond government getting involved in business. I worked in Nigeria Airways for 30years. I know why it failed and 80 % of the problem is government interference. Because, you own something and you are not adding something to it,it is going to collapse. You just set it up,no professional to run it,no competence and the people you are putting there, their allegiance is to the people who appointed them,so you can’t get nothing from such project; that was why everything collapsed. “
Bankole however said that foreign airlines can continue to do business in Nigeria but noted that their activities must be transparent.
