DUTSE—Jigawa State has announced that it used the released first and second tranches of Paris Club refund amounting to N21.3 billion for the payment of contractual obligations.

The state’s Commissioner for Finance, Umar Namadi, told journalists that in December 2016 the Federal Government released N14,215,333,413.52 as first tranche of the Paris club refund to the state, while the state was allocated with N7,107,666,706.76 in the second.

The commissioner explained that under the condition given to state governments, the fund will be used to settle all outstanding salaries and pension arrears of workers, adding that “it is a known fact that in Jigawa State we don’t have any outstanding salaries or pension arrears, as all workers entitlements are paid as and when due.”

He stated further that in the absence of such condition given to states by the Federal Government, Jigawa deemed it necessary to settle contractual obligations.
