ASABA—DELTA State Government, yesterday, said it released N1.650 billion to the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, against the N500 million being speculated in some quarters.
Reacting in a statement, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, said those behind the rumour were mischief makers, who want to cause disaffection and smear the image of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration.
Ukah, in the statement by his Media Assistant, Mr Sam Ijeh, said: “The attention of the Delta State Government has been drawn to another orchestrated rumour that the state government released N500 million to DESOPADEC to pay contractors as well as run its affairs, as same is not true. What was released was N1.650 billion”
“The mischievous rumour, again, has exposed the writers as ignorant and wicked persons whose stock in trade is to cause unnecessary disaffection aimed at destroying the peaceful atmosphere existing in the state.
“In the month of July 2017, the sum of N1.650bn was released to DESOPADEC,” he said, enjoining Deltans “not to be distracted but continue to support the government of Okowa, who is committed to the overall development of the state.”
