A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old businessman, Abdulreman Yusuf, to six months imprisonment for stealing stove and other cooking utensils.
The Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Yusuf after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on brake-in and stealing.
Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay N40, 000 as compensation to the complainant.
The judge, however, warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
Yusuf, residing at Angwan Shehu by Zango Village at Life Camp in Abuja, was charged under Sections, 349, 356 and 288 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, told court that on Aug. 14, one Glory and Obinna Nwoke of Court Road, Angwan Hausawa in Karmo, reported the case at the Karmo Police Station.
Auhioboh said that on the same date of the incident at about 8 p.m. Yusuf criminally broke into Nwoke’s room and made away with his property.
She also told court that Yusuf came back on Aug. 15 at about 10. 30 p.m. and broke into the second complainant’s house and stole stove, kettle, plates, and bucket, all valued at N40, 000.
“The accused admitted during investigation of committing the offence but all effort made to recover the stolen items from him proved abortive,’’ she said.
Following the guilty plea, the prosecutor prayed the court to try Yusuf summarily, under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015.
