A forty year-old man Mr. Rasak Kolawole Onagbesan, has called on Nigerian government, Human right organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) and international organizations to come to his aide, alleging that his uncle Honorable Kamoru Onagbesan has conspired with his community members to torture his family.
In an interview with newsmen, on the 14th of August, 2017, Rasak exposed how his uncle together with his community members wanted to use force to allegedly circumcise his daughter despite his refusal to such diabolical and traditional rite.
When asked the reason why he did not allow them to perform the circumcision rites and other custom related rituals, Rasak said he was given preeminent condition on the 22nd of April, 2015, by his in-laws before he could marry his wife.
His words, “My in-laws asked me to promise them that I and my wife ‘Oludamilola’ will never take part in any devilish and ritual practice in my community, Iperu Akesan Bale Oja, Ogun state.
“But before then, my mother and I had stopped practicing the traditional rites and had equally resolved not to worship our family idol, ‘Masquerade’, believed to be the giver of wealth, protection, progress and long life to every member of our community”, he said.
Rasak said that his father before his death on the 31st of January, 2013, had refrained also from idol worshiping. In view of his father’s new found fate in Christ Jesus, Rasak said that his father was physically and spiritually bruised by his uncle for leaving their family religion.
Listing the consequences and challenges his family members faced at the cost of their fathers unshakeable believe in Jesus Christ, Rasak said that they lost members of their family and experienced hardship and stunted growth in their businesses.
Speaking on why he needed people’s assistance, Rasak narrated how his uncle with some community members, Shola Onagbesan, Olumide Onagbesan and Rilwan Onagbesan, purportedly came to his house on the 28th of October, 2016, when his wife was eight months pregnant to urge him to prepare his child for ritual.
“When my wife put to bed, on the 8th of November, 2016, they stormed my house to escort my family to Ibu River for the first spiritual birth. I, together with my wife resisted and they left and promised to return with deadly force.
“As a result of the crisis my wife’s blood pressure rose to about 189/101 MM Hg.
Continuing he said, “We quickly reported the matter to the police but the police told us that the case was not a police case and advised us to go back and make peace with them, noting that we are not bigger than our custom, and culture of our people. I was totally disappointed”, he said.
Rasak equally noted that his elder brother, Mr Onagbesan in 2003 encountered same treatment which led to the death of his son.
Speaking further, he said his brother out of frustration disowned his family and went to a national newspaper to change his name from Onagbesan Dele to Dele Daniels.
His two elder sisters according to him were equally attacked by the said uncle, thus made them to flee with their respective families for fear of their lives.
