ABUJA—The National Working Committee, NWC, of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, led by Chief Martin Agbaso, yesterday, took possession of the national secretariat of the party, in Abuja, insisting that the party’s primary election slated for August 14, to pick its governorship candidate for Anambra governorship election remains.
Chief Agbaso, who stormed the party’s office located at Libreville Crescent, Wuse II in the Federal Capital City, FCC, at about 4.30 pm, where he took over affairs of the party, declared that Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra State remains the national leader of the party.
His entry into the office was facilitated by the presence of a detachment of over 16 anti-riot mobile policemen drafted from the FCT Police Command led by Superintendent of Police, SP, Hassan Sani, who provided security and ensure orderliness during the ceremony.
This development followed a ruling of Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, which had July 10, 2017 affirmed Chief Martin Agbaso as the authentic National Chairman of APGA.
Addressing journalists in his office, Chief Agbaso, who expressed his readiness to rebuild the party, and form common front to move the party forward, said he would extend hand of fellowship to the embattled National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Victor Oye and other aggrieved party members.
Agbaso dispelled insinuations that the change of baton at the party’s highest leadership position will have negative effect on the Anambra election.
He said: “Well, if you know my antecedence, you will know the real battle has just started. The process of APGA retaining the governorship position of Anambra State has just begun. I am set now to work. In the next couple of days, in fact, tomorrow or on Saturday, I am travelling to Awka to meet with the leader of our great party, Chief Willy Obiano.
“And I will extend the hands of fellowship to the former National chairman, Dr. Victor Oye and all aggrieved members of our great party to come together and we forge a common front so that we can go ahead to win the November 18, governorship election. “
“The governor of Anambra State is the leader of our party. So, everybody has his support. That is what is ought to be and that is what we hope it will be for us to moving forward.”
