ASABA—FORMER member House of Representatives, Chief Ned Nwoko, has said that the proposed Stars University billed to be established at Idumuje-Ugboko community, Aniocha North Local Government Area , Delta State will offer other courses outside sports.
Nwoko, who stated this while conducting the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, Mr Michael Ikeogwu, members of his executive and some members of the union who paid him a courtesy visit at Idumuje-Ugboko, round some tourist buildings of the proposed university, said that the institution will in addition to sports, also offer courses in Technology, Arts and Sciences.
He expressed optimism that the university will takeoff in the next one year subject to the granting of operational licence by the National University Commission, NUC.
He disclosed that a working committee with a renowned Professor of Medicine and Asagba of Asaba as its chairman was working and liaising with the commission to get approval for the institution.
He said: ‘’We have acquired the land and all that is required for establishment of the university in line with NUC guidelines which also stipulates that the land must be in the name of the institution. And in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, I signed with the community, the community has 40 per cent of the University.
‘’Everything has been done painstakingly over the years. We have design for buildings, roads, water, electricity and so on and so forth. The Masterplan was done by a consultant approved by NUC , and so have all the documents here which include: Environmental Impact Assessment; Academic brief volume 1 and Volume 2 ; the draft law and the geo-Technical Report of the University, all prepared by experts recommended by NUC.
